Discord is a privacy and security nightmare, an Electron circle-jerk and full of Garbage "features" that no one needs!
No E2EE, really? Discord generated $575 million revenue in 2023 and cant compete with any other Messenger... bro really?
The ToS are horrible, Discord tracks you on other websites, can delete everything without prior notice and without a reason, assume your consent merely from your usage, gathers information about you through third parties, collects extra data about you through promotions, discoloses personal data to the government without notice, gives your personal data to third parties involved in its operation and processes and stores your data anywhere in the world... wow. its not even a complete list!
I dare you to open the Taskmanager or something and tell me that Discord uses less than 300MB of RAM! I hate Teamspeak but holy shit, they never used that much RAM at least! I know, i know, programming hard, but why does EVERYTHING needs to run in Chrome? Spotify, VSCode and fucking Element (what i use) does this...
Imagine not adding new shit noone needs. Stickers emojis and a soundboard, i can get behind that. Why tags for the cringe server you are on? Why seizure inducing profile-effects and profile-image.effects, Banners and Microsoft WordArt style Names that are unreadable. When is the Discord client just colorful noise? You can only fit that many Buttons in a screen. Good luck!
There was a time that this was less of an issue, users invited others and it gained. The "noIM" style of messengers was only Discord, the layout in general is so good, even Teamspeak and Element adopted it, next to many other clones. Now we have to use it because moving is hard, all your friends and communities need to move to the same service and this is not gonna happen any time soon... we are fucked until it dies or forces us to leave.
